New to the Neighbourhood?

Welcome! We’re thrilled that you chose to call Bluewater home! We love it here and we know you will too. 🙂

This website (and our Facebook group!) was created to support neighbours in staying in touch with both each other and our community. From time to time, we also send out emails to our neighbourhood. If you would like to be added to the distribution list, please get in touch and we’ll add you!

Below you will find a list of resources that will support you as you settle in.

Resources

The municipality has created a Newcomer Guide which is super helpful, especially if you’ve just moved to Bowen! You can find it here: www.bowenislandmunicipality.ca/newcomer-guide

Neighbourhood Emergency Services: Call 9-1-1 in an emergency. The Rotary Club of Bowen Island has setup 2 community AED’s in our neighbourhood. They are located at Captain’s Way Road and Spyglass Road. There is also 1 in Bowen Bay on Emily Lane. Signup for our emergency notification system: https://www.bowenislandmunicipality.ca/ens

Neighbourhood Street Signage: Around the neighbourhood (and the island!), you’ll see many blue street number signs. They’re all part of a program organized by our Rotary Club to support emergency services in quickly finding homes. We encourage you to check out their program and add a reflective street sign to your property.

Our Garbage & Waste Collection: Our garbage pickup is every other Tuesday and our organic refuse pickup is every Wednesday. The full schedule can be found here: https://www.bowenislandmunicipality.ca/garbage-collection-schedule

Our Water System: We are primarily on the Bluewater water park system, with some homes being supported by the King Edward Bay water system. The municipality has a lot of info online about our system & you can sign up for water advisory alerts as well: https://www.bowenislandmunicipality.ca/bluewater-park-water-system. We pay for our water throughout the summer and you will be billed in October.

Facebook Groups

Our community revolves heavily on Facebook as a communication tool. But just because we do, doesn’t mean you have to! 🙂 If you are on Facebook, here’s some groups that are worth checking out:

  • Bluewater Neighbours
  • Bowen Island Buy & Sell
  • Bowen Island Task, Errand & Small Jobs
  • Bowen Island Rentals & FSBO
  • Bowen Island Events
  • Bowen Artists, Crafters, Growers & Jammers
  • Hell Yeah Bowen Island

Commuting

Many of us commute to the city every day for work and there are lots of people who would be happy to share what’s worked for them! The preferred way to commute is to take the water taxi from Snug Cove to Horseshoe Bay and then take Peter’s Express Bus to downtown Vancouver. With that said, the times & drop-off locations doesn’t work for everyone!

The Bowen Island Transportation Society is working to make commuting more efficient for islanders. You can learn more about what they’re up to here: https://www.bowenislandtransportationsociety.ca/

  • Bowen Island Commuters
  • Bowen Island Express Bus (pick up’s & drop off’s downtown)
  • Bowen Island Vanpool (pick up’s & drop-off’s downtown, Kitsilano and UBC)

We are very lucky that Bluewater is serviced by Translink. The bus runs approx. every hour on weekdays and has limited service on the weekends. You can look at the route, bus schedule, etc on the municipality’s website.
